Frequently asked questions

How efficient is a PEM Electrolyzer really?

The efficiency is about 50 to 60%. That means for one kilowatt-hour of electricity you get a little more than half of a kilowatt-hour worth of hydrogen. Gladly you can use the heat as well.

How long will an electrolyzer last?

Our electrolyzers have a lifetime of around 40.000 hours, which translates to almost 5 years of operating time if left running constantly. In comparison, a gasoline car has a lifetime of around 3.000 hours, which barely sums up to a year of driving if you drove for 8 hours a day, every day.

What is the return of investment of your electrolyzers?

It depends on your end goals and methods. For one, you can sell your canisters filled up with hydrogen gas generated through the electrolyzer, at around a rate of 52 euros per day. The second factor is the amount you will save on refuelling your car, which is free with hydrogen compared to gasoline.

How much water is needed to run the electrolyzer for one kilowatt-hour?

1. Water consumption of electrolyzers lies at 9 kilogram of water per kilogram of hydrogen gas. 2. Electrolysis lies at around 80% to 90% of the volume of hydrogen gas. If you have a Norm liter Nl/h as hydrogen output, then you will need 800 to 900 ml of deionized water.
